History:

Malibú's story starts in 1943 when Ricardo Soriano Scholtz-Hermansdorff, Marquis of Ivanrey, one of the most influential personalities in Marbella's history, decided to buy "El Rodeo". This country estate, located between Marbella and San Pedro, was bought for 22 pesetas (about € 0,13) per sq. metre, an exorbitant sum at that time! Ricardo proceeded to design and build a hotel complex named "Venta y Albergues El Rodeo", and a private house for himself, right on the beach.

His friend, Edgar Neville, a famous author, scriptwriter and playwright, arrived in Marbella in the early 50's, and bought a piece of land in "El Rodeo" from Ricardo. He built a house there, calling it Malibú in memory of the famous Californian beach where he had lived in the 30's, together with other Spanish artists and writers who had been contracted by a big production company from Hollywood.

At Malibú, Neville enjoyed the best period of his life, having a passionate love affair with Conchita Montes, his literary inspiration and sentimental friend until his death.

Malibú, with its socialite residents, Edgar Neville and Conchita Montes, became the "En vogue" meeting point for many writers, painters and intellectuals living or visiting Marbella at that time.

Later, another world famous personality, the Scottish actor Sean Connery, bought Malibú as his holiday home, and for more than 20 years enjoyed its tranquil setting. His presence adding another page to the history of this beautiful Mediterranean estate.
